LHASA is a portable meditation stool, for use in the traditional Seiza position, that is comfortable and hardwearing. It will improve your meditation practice wherever you take it.
Save your Back
The 13º inclination keeps the pelvis in a good position and the back straight without stress on the lower back muscles. It is solid and stable. Both essential to have a relaxed body and achieve a ebonized and continuous breathing cycle.
And your Knees
The height of the seat is just enough to reduce knee stretching, while distributing your weight evenly among the buttocks and legs. This keeps it off the knees themselves, avoiding the sensation of them “poking” the floor, and makes the ergonomics of the stool very close to sitting in regular seiza. It is just the thing for people that lack the flexibility needed to feel comfortable in seiza for longer than a few seconds.
Handy
The small size of this stool is derived from its’ ergonomics and relation to our body, but is also thought so you can move it with one hand while already kneeling down and position it under you with ease. The friction fit of the joinery makes it imposible for it to come apart by accident.
Portable
We've studied the joinery so it can be assembled and disassembled by hand, with a nice friction fit made possible by the cotton knots embedded in the wood, and the structure itself is designed to tighten when you sit on it. This means it uses your own body weight to be even more stable, instead of trying to fight it… something we learned from various example of traditional seating from around the world.
Furoshiki
The LHASA stool has only 4 parts, that pack nicely together to make it very practical to carry around anywhere, so it seemed only fitting to also design a furoshiki that goes with it. It is a hand-dyed furoshiki, using Indigo dye and made also by ourselves, that sports a circular ring pattern design inspired by the traditional ensō symbol.

Making of
One of the more interesting parts of our LHASA designs is the cotton knotting that is responsible for the friction fit of the joinery.
