Basic Etiquette
The original inspiration for this design was to try to present the weapons as if holding them in our hands when bowing towards the Kamiza. The angled supports are interesting visually but also practical in that makes the distance between the support points different according to the length of the weapons.
A supporting role
The Tanto is certainly one of the most common tools used in modern Dojos, and we wanted to show it the respect it deserves by designing a proper place for it.
We also wanted to keep the curved shapes as clean as possible, in order to keep the overall simplicity that helps it fulfill its function as a stand without stealing the spotlight from what is being displayed.
Simple and a Challenge
One of the most difficult problems to solve in fabrication was how to make the cutouts at an angle, achieved only by a bit of creative thinking, and the cotton knottings we already used in our LHASA meditation designs were the perfect solution for a friction fit of the joinery, that makes it very enjoyable to assemble and avoids an accidental disassembly.

Making of
One of the more interesting parts of our SHOGUN designs is the cotton knotting that is responsible for the friction fit of the joinery. This video shows the work needed for each joint as applied also in our LHASA designs for meditation.
Wood selection is also quite important for such a simple design. The Sageo knotting is only made after you order, which lets you choose your preferred option.
